5 new courses @ WLC
Wigan and Leigh College (WLC) India will launch five new courses this academic year, its Chief Executive Officer Malobika Sengupta said here on Thursday.Ms. Sengupta told press persons that programmes in retail, hospital administration, information technology, hospitality and public relations would be introduced in the Chennai campus, besides the management and design courses already on offer. Also, full scholarships would be offered for 15 per cent of seats for students on a merit-cum-means basis.
Trevor Ashton, Director of the WLC UK, said the `Work While You Learn' policy of the college gave a cutting edge for students when they started their careers. The courses offered at the undergraduate and postgraduate-levels in India were diploma programmes, but students could earn a degree by doing an extra year at WLC UK.The college would help find traineeship opportunities in top firms for postgraduate students, for whom `Work While You Learn' is compulsory. Undergraduate students would work as trainees in their final year.Courses offered by the WLC India are not recognised by any approval or affiliating bodies of the Indian Government.
However, as WLC UK is a fully Government-funded college, its Indian programmes are widely recognised, Mr. Ashton said. Credits earned in WLC India are recognised by several universities in the U.S. and the U.K., he added.WLC India has 15 campuses across the country. The Chennai campus is based in Alwarpet.
