Sri Ramachandra University here is establishing a central research facility at a cost of Rs 50 crore to become a centre of excellence in medical research.The facility would be the 'A to Z gateway' for research and would be headed by renowned biomedicine scientist Dr S P Thyagarajan, University Chancellor V R Venkatachalam told.It would be inaugurated by a renowned national scientist in August, Thyagarajan, who would be its director and chief advisor, said.The facility would take care of logistics of research planning, project administration, data analysis and storage, he said adding that it would also validate treatment through indigenous systems for various diseases.It would be located in an area of 25,000 sq feet and would have among others medical informatics and modelling unit, clinical research unit, study design and project development unit, an incubator and a central animal house, he said.
The university today signed two MoUs, one with CLRI and another with Sathyabama University.The MoU with CLRI would pave the way for major collaborative projects developed in the areas of biomedical research, traditional medicine validation and standardisation and environmental health engineering.The MoU with Sathyabama University would provide an opportunity to the Sri Ramachandra University to offer training programmes in hospital support services to unemployed youth through the former's Village Resource Centres.
