Drinking water supply will be streamlined
Dindigul: Drinking water supply to Dindigul through comprehensive Cauvery drinking water scheme will be streamlined from July 1. Supply would be made once in two days from July 1.This was announced at a special consultative meeting convened between municipal councillors and Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD) officials here on Friday.
TWAD Board Superintending Engineer Ilangovan pointed out that all defects in the scheme would be weeded out shortly. Earlier, the department had been facing practical difficulties in implementing the scheme effectively. Major defects were rectified.Water from Cauvery River was pumped through seven pumping stations between Karur and Dindigul. Disruption of power supply even at one station would affect supply drastically. Erratic power supply prevented water from reaching the main supply tank at MVM Nagar in the town. All distribution pipelines in the town would be replaced with new ones in a phased manner, he added.
Supply Earlier, S. Marudharaj charged that drinking water supply was made once in eight days in his ward.Municipal Chairman R. Nadarajan deplored that his ward was getting water once in 10 days.Quality of water was also very poor. TWAD officials must rectify all defects in the scheme and streamline water supply, he said.
Independent councillor A. Chandrasekar appealed to the TWAD officials to change damaged distribution pipes in several wards. A majority of the councillors complained that water supply was erratic.TWAD Executive Engineer Thirumalai Kumar, and Municipal Commissioner S. Meyyazhagan, among others, took part in the meeting.
