New therapy for diabetic foot wounds
M.V hospital has introduced vacuum-assisted closure method, a healing therapy for diabetic foot wounds being followed in the US.This would be a remedy to the dreaded problem of delayed healing of diabetic wounds, especially resulting from foot complications which could even lead to amputation, said Dr Vijay Viswanathan, Managing Director of M V Hospital for Diabetes and Diabetes Research Centre, which introduced the therapy.
Using the vacuum-assisted closure method, the wound healing would be faster by at least 40 per cent saving hospitalisation cost and time, he said in a press release.Vacuum-assisted closure was an innovative technology device specifically created and developed to treat a variety of chronic and acute wounds, Vijay Viswanathan said, adding the device was automated to control the delivery of topical solutions such as cleansers, antibiotics, antifungal, antiseptics and anaesthetics to the wound.
