40000 applications received for voter id

Tiruchi:Over 40,000 applications have been received in the district for inclusions, deletions and corrections in the electoral rolls as part of the summary revision of voters’ list.The applications will be verified by the officials and orders issued, the Collector Ashish Vachchani told reporters here on Friday.About 40,000 applications had been received for inclusion of names, 385 for deletions, 1,696 for corrections and 783 for transfer of residence.Musiri and Uppilliyapuram Assembly segments accounted for the largest number of applications with 6,000 each.

Mr. Vachhani also said that all the 14 blocks in the district would be allotted Rs.3.5 lakh each from the Collector’s Discretionary Funds for drinking water supply improvement works.This would be in addition to the Rs. 5 lakh sanctioned to each of the blocks earlier.The money would be spent on sinking borewells, extension of pipelines, construction of overhead tanks and allied works.The works sanctioned under the earlier allotment were already under way.They were being taken up on a priority basis without waiting for Government allotment.The administration had already sought Rs.5.96 crore from the Government for drinking water supply augmentation during summer.
