AAI would take up Vellore airport development
Vellore: The Executive Director of the Airports Authority of India, Southern Region, Chennai, K. Ramalingam, has promised Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi that the AAI would take up development of the Vellore airport for operation of passenger flights after completing the work on the establishment of the airport in Sriperumbudur, according to Public Works Department Minister Durai Murugan.The Minister gave this information in response to a request from Director of the Christian Medical College Hospital George M. Chandy to develop the airport in Vellore, at a function got up on the hospital premises to inaugurate the High Dose Rate Brachytherapy Unit on Monday.Dr. Chandy said improvement of infrastructure in Vellore, especially the transport infrastructure, was necessary to make Vellore a `health city' so that people could easily come from different parts of the country for medical treatment.Mr. Durai Murugan said that during his next visit to Delhi, he would talk to the AAI officials and impress on them the need to introduce flight services from Vellore to other places.
