Brisk sale of uniform cloth in textile market
Erode:Parents turned up at the Erode textile weekly market to purchase school uniforms for their children on Tuesday. "We are really happy now. After six dull weeks we have had good business today,'' textile merchants in the Erode weekly textile market told The Hindu on Tuesday.The Erode textile market assembles every Tuesday to Wednesday afternoon with sellers from Erode, Namakkal and parts of Salem district selling textile goods worth a minimum of Rs. 5 crore every week to buyers from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and some North Indian towns.In the past six weeks sale of textile goods was affected owing to the severity of the hot season.
But on Tuesday, buyers poured into the market, much to the delight of the sellers.Handloom, powerloom and mill varieties, handkerchiefs, bed sheets and design cloths were sold at wholesale rate.A merchant said: "On Tuesday most of the buyers purchased uniform clothes and readymade uniforms. Khaki and blue drill clothes were in high demand."
