CM schudled visit to Nellai
Tirunelveli: The Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, who is scheduled to visit here on June 17, is likely to lay foundation stone for the much-awaited software park to be established at Gangaikondan SIPCOT Industrial Estate at an estimated cost of Rs.300 crore.Speaking to reporters here on Friday, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam district in-charge and Tenkasi MLA, V. Karuppasamy Pandian, said the Chief Minister, who would reach Tirunelveli by train around 7.30 a.m., would attend a government function to be held at Tirunelveli Medical College Grounds at 10 a.m., where he would lay the foundation stone for various projects, worth Rs. 507 crore, including the Gangaikondan software park, and distribute welfare measures including two acres to landless and marginal farmers and farmhands.After having lunch in a private guesthouse at Sankar Nagar near here, he would attend a function to be organised at Exhibition Grounds by Dalit Panthers of India in the evening.The DMK president would be leaving for Madurai by road the next day morning, he said."All out efforts are being made to start work on Nanguneri Special Economic Zone before the end of this year. Hence, a rousing welcome will be accorded to the Chief Minister and the DMK cadres in large numbers will participate in the DPI's meeting," Mr. Karuppasamy Pandian said.
He said the Government College of Arts and Science, Surandai, would start functioning from this academic year onwards in a temporary building before moving to a permanent building to come up on a spacious land donated by a group of philanthropists. Moreover, donors had been identified for the construction of buildings for the new college.The general secretary of DPI, Thol. Thirumavalavan, and the Deputy Mayor, Tirunelveli Corporation, K. Muthuramalingam, were present.
