Rs.95 lakh worth facilite in Tirunelveli univ

Tirunelvalli:Vice-Chancellor, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Cynthiya Pandian, unveiling a plaque for new facilities at Abhishekapatti on Monday.The 16-year-old Manonmaniam Sundaranar University is all set to add more facilities on its Abhishekapatti premises which will be established at a cost of Rs.95.50 lakh in the next three months.Extension of dining and recreation halls at the women's hostel (Rs.7.50 lakh), the construction of second floor of women's hostel and elevation (Rs.26 lakh), a library for the Department of Management Studies (Rs.20 lakh), Infrastructure and Physical Education building (Rs.21 lakh), laying of track and field for the Department of Sports (Rs.21 lakh) will be completed before the onset of monsoon, the Vice-Chancellor, Cynthia Pandian, told reporters here after laying foundation stones for all these facilities on Monday.

She said that the construction of the convocation hall with a seating capacity of 1,000 would be completed by August and the next convocation of the university was likely to be held in the new facility.The examination hall under construction with a plinth area of 24,000 square feet would be completed before December this year.Since the university's sprawling Abhishekapatti premises mostly has only clay soil, 2-feet-deep clay would be removed and red soil, suitable for laying of track and field, be filled in it, the Sports Officer, Department of Sports of the university, Shanmuganathan, said adding that saplings would be planted around the track and field area.Some Senate and Syndicate Committee members were also present during the ceremony.
