Memorial soon for ‘Tamizhisai Moovar’
Nagapattinam: A ‘Mani Mandapam’ will soon be built in Sirkazhi as a tribute to the ‘Tamizhisai Moovar’ (Tamil music trinity) of Arunachalakavirayar, Marimuthapillai and Muthuthandavar, who spread Tamil music through devotional songs, said U. Mathivanan, Minister for Dairy Development, on Saturday.Inaugurating the ‘Tamizhisai Moovar Vizha’ at Sattanathar temple in Sirkazhi, the birthplace of the Tamil music trinity, the Minister said that as announced by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi recently the construction of the ‘Mani Mandapam’ would begin shortly.He pointed out that the DMK Government during its earlier regime had announced the construction of the mandapam at an estimated cost of Rs.67 lakh. But it could not take shape due to various reasons. He said that even though the project would now cost more it would be completed as early as possible.Mr. Mathivanan also unveiled the portraits of Arunachalakavirayar, Marimuthapillai and Muthuthandavar at the function organised by the Tourism and Culture Department in association with the South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur.R. Gnanasekaran, District Revenue Officer, Nagapattinam, senior officials from Tourism Department and others spoke.
