Silk reeling unit inaugurated
ERODE: A small scale silk reeling unit called RMV Silk Yarn Traders was inaugurated at Appakudal Pudupalayam, Bhavani taluk, under the Catalytic Development Programme of the Sericulture department, recently.Inaugurating the reeling unit, the Regional Joint Director of Sericulture, Erode R. Chandrasekaran, said 3,000 kg of cocoons was being transported for sale to Karnataka every day.To prevent such flow to other States, he wanted the farmers to come forward to sell their cocoons to small-scale silk producing centres.He also added that the Central and State Governments were providing 70 percent subsidy for the promotion of silk reeling units.Similarly nationalised and other banks were advancing funds liberally for the growth of the sericulture industry.In his presidential address, the Senior Manager, Canara Bank, Sakthinagar Nagasundaram, said the bank was ready to advance funds to sericulture farmers and also to the silk reeling industries.
He suggested that the Sericulture department conduct a separate seminar on sericulture in the area, where bankers could visit and provide sufficient funds for the industry.In his special address, the Assistant General Manager, Sakthi Sugars, Rajendran said the area under mulberry cultivation was slowly going up.
