Intermittent power cuts @ south chennai
Chennai:Residents of areas in south Chennai have been facing intermittent power cuts over the past week, though the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) insists that the power situation is fine.The timing of the power cuts has surprised the residents, as it comes after the peaking of summer, when the demand is high. A resident of VGP Layout in Palavakkam Mirza Ismail said the power cuts were intermittent and often lasted only a few minutes. Nonetheless, it was irritating to keep switching off the electrical appliances fearing a voltage spike.There have also been complaints of unannounced power failures from residents in Velachery. A resident of Vijaya Nagar in Velachery A. Veerappan said despite the summer coming to an end residents are reeling under constant power disruptions.Residents of Adyar and Thiruvanmiyur have also not escaped the crisis. Nandakumar, a resident of Adyar, said that on Tuesday Gandhi Nagar went without power for several hours.Residents have charged that the TNEB was resorting to unannounced load shedding, which the TNEB officials have denied. A senior TNEB official said power cuts were few and far in between. He added that the officials were quick in restoring power. Measures that the Board had taken to improve the power situation, including laying of a new underground cable between Taramani and Velachery.
