Educational Development Index shows Nothern States in ahead
J&K, Northeastern States Ahead in English-medium Education
Jammu and Kashmir is the only state in the country except the northeastern states, where more students are getting education in the English medium than any other language.
In comparison with other developed states such as Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat or Madhya Pradesh, there are more students getting education in English-medium schools in J&K.
In terms of total numbers of student, Andhra Pradesh has more students getting education in English medium than any other state. Tamil Nadu comes next to Andhra Pradesh in the list.

However, states such as Kerala and Delhi, which ranked at the top in Educational Development Index (EDI), are not doing too well when it comes to teaching in English-medium education to their children.
As far as Bihar and UP is concerned, English-medium students are lagging behind in terms of enrolment numbers in both states. In Bihar, they are under the others category and in UP the numbers go for thousands only.
In the case of J&K, students are being enrolled mostly in the English-medium schools. In Jammu and Kashmir and northeastern states such as Nagaland, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, English is emerging as the most preferred medium of education.
In Mizoram, English is next most preferred language to Mizo as a medium of instruction.
