Salem:More than 400 candidates attended a career meet organised by the District Employment Office here recently. A total of 20 private firms and educational institutions conducted the selection process to recruit candidates for 165 posts including accountant, computer operator, marketing staff, and graduate teacher.

IT park, SEZ will boost job opportunities

Transport Minister K.N. Nehru, said on Sunday.Launching the third phase of distribution of unemployment dole to beneficiaries of the district at a function held at Srirangam here, Mr. Nehru said that the establishment of Information Technology Park in Tiruchi, the setting up of a Special Economic Zone in about 5,000 acres in Perambalur, a tyre manufacturing unit in about 300 acres in Perambalur, besides expansion of the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited would all generate new employment opportunities in the near future.

The Government had created various welfare boards for the benefit of the working class involved in different types of trade.It had hiked the Old Age Pension.The promises made during the Assembly elections were all being implemented by the State Government, he said.A total of 1,570 new beneficiaries identified during the third phase were given unemployment assistance to the tune of Rs.9.39 lakh.The District Collector Ashish Vachhani said in all 20,400 beneficiaries in the district were given assistance to the tune of Rs.3.48 crore under the unemployment assistance scheme.The Tiruchi Member of Parliament L. Ganesan, MLA Anbil Periyasamy and district panchayat chairman V. Sangeetha spoke.

Job fair

Vellore:The TMI First — a division of TMI network — is organising a job fair in association with the Career Guidance and Placement Cell of Auxilium College on the college premises in Gandhinagar here from 10 a.m. on July 21 and 22. Graduates (including B.E. graduates) and diploma holders of the 2005, 2006 and 2007 batches with more than 45 per cent marks are eligible to participate. Life insurance, financial services and engineering companies will participate, according to a note from the principal of the college.

Madurai:A recruitment drive will be held on Thursday at NMSS Vellaichamy Nadar College by Chemplast Sanmar, a Chennai-based firm.Placements will be for the post of Accounts Trainee. 2007 pass-outs of M.Com. and M.Com. CA with no history of arrears could apply. Students from other colleges could also appear for the placement. Students should bring identity cards or identity proof, resume, two photographs, writing pad and attested photocopies of certificates. Eligible students can register themselves with the college’s placement cell in advance or on the day of the interview, which will be held at the college from 8.30 a.m.

15 online turors selected

Chennai: Fifteen candidates selected as online tutors by Tutors Worldwide (TWWI), an educational process outsourcing firm, were handed their appointment letters by the Madras University Vice Chancellor S. Ramachandran here on Monday.The candidates were chosen from 506 applicants after a rigorous selection process. Fifteen others have been shortlisted and are awaiting a final interview.

According to Mahalingam Vaidyanathan, Chief Operating Officer, TWWI, the emphasis during the selection process was on English skills and school-level mathematics.Similar recruitment was also being carried out in Madurai Kamaraj University and Bharathiar University, Coimbatore.Emilda Joseph, one of the successful candidates, said she found the concept of one-to-one teaching via the internet an interesting and challenging prospect.For the moment, the students who will receive the services of the new recruits are American students in grades 4-12.However, Mr. Vaidyanathan is hopeful of entering the domestic market by the end this year.”

Employment exchange struggled boz of crowd

Kancheepuram:Chaos prevailed at the district sports stadium on the Railway Road here for some time on Friday morning when thousands of school students assembled at the stadium to get their names registered with the District Employment Exchange. The DEE office recently issued a release saying that those who have passed the SSLC examinations could get their names registered at the stadium on June 15 and between June 18 and 22 in view of the inadequate space in the DEE office near Vaikunthaperumal Temple in Kancheepuram.

Consequently, a large number of students from different parts of Kancheepuram district arrived at the stadium right from early morning. When distribution of application forms began at around 10 a.m. students and their parents started vying with one another to grab the forms, leading to commotion.As a result, hundreds of forms were torn and rendered useless even as a team of three constables tried to bring about some order. The process of scrutinising applications and issuing identification cards to the students began at around 11 a.m. after more police personnel were posted at the stadium.

Meanwhile, enquiries revealed that the DEE officials had taken the decision to conduct the registration at the stadium as they anticipated a huge rush this year in view of the implementation of ‘financial assistance to jobless youth’ (FAJY) scheme. If a student gets his/her name registered with the DEE now itself, he or she would automatically become eligible for the financial assistance of Rs.300 per month, after graduation.Last year, only around 10000 students, who have passed the SSLC examinations, registered their names with the DEE office. On the other hand, this year on the very first day itself, more than 2000 students have gathered at the stadium, sources said.Already the number of beneficiaries covered under the FAJY scheme in the State has increased to 4.50 lakh youth in this calendar year from 3.18 lakh youth, when the scheme was launched last year.

Big crowd in emp.office

Tuticorn:Students at the employment exchange in Tuticorin on Friday.Students who had completed the Secondary School Leaving Certificate came in large numbers to register their names at the District Employment Office here on Friday.K Kalaiselvan, District Employment Officer, said that a total of 4,910 students (2,276 girls and 1,634 boys) registered their names on Friday alone.“On Thursday afternoon (first day of registration), about 800 students got their names enrolled into the list.”

According to him, the registration would continue without any deadline on date.About 1.3 lakh people have registered their names with the employment office here and are awaiting opportunities to enter into government jobs.Uneasy calm prevailed at Kalivanar Kalairangam near the Anna Stadium here on Friday after more than, 2,000 students along with their parents assembled to register their Standard X certificate at the employment office.According to sources, when the doors of the auditorium were opened, more than 10 students fainted and a few students lost their certificates, as the crowd was heavy, the sources said.The Chairman of Nagercoil municipality, Ashokan Solomon, visited the spot to streamline the registration process, the sources added.

1500 students recruited in campus

Vellore:One thousand five hundred final year B.Tech. and postgraduate students of the VIT University have been recruited by blue-chip companies during campus interviews conducted on the university campus this year.

According to a release from R. Nandakummar, Public Relations Officer of the university, the selected students will be joining the companies in June/July 2008 with salaries ranging from Rs.3.15 lakh to Rs.3.3 lakh per annum.Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) alone recruited 789 students at the campus selection held from June 7 to 9, as against 525 VIT University students selected by the company last year.Girls secured a high percentage of placements compared to their proportional strength in the VIT university.

Recruitment drive to select women police

Tuticorin: The selection process under way in Tuticorin on Wednesday.A two-day recruitment drive to select women police constables commenced at Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu Ground here on Wednesday.The Superintendent of Police, John Nicholson, said that a total of 2,788 candidates from Tuticorin and Kanyakumari districts were attending the preliminary round.

The candidates underwent physical measurement test and endurance test.Those who qualify in the first phase would be called for a physical efficiency test between June 8 and 15. The qualifiers from that phase would be eligible to attend the final selection on June 29.Similar selection trials were conducted in various parts of the State simultaneously to select a total of 1,379 women constables.

The Deputy Inspector Generals of Police, A.K. Das and A.K. Singh, supervised the selection.Mr. Nicholson said that a total of 4,930 male candidates hailing from Tuticorin and Kanyakumari districts from among 10,242 aspirants had qualified at the preliminary phase. This was following a nine-day recruitment drive to select Grade-II constables, which concluded at the same venue on Tuesday evening.The selected candidates would undergo physical efficiency tests during the second phase, which commences in the district on June 8.

Candidates queuing up to register at the District Employment Office in Vellore on Friday.At the District Employment Office here, the enthusiasm of Plus Two passed candidates in registering their names was undiminished for the past several years despite the dwindling employment opportunities in the Government.The Jayalalithaa Government, which imposed a ban on recruitment as part of its fiscal discipline measures, lifted the ban only in January 2006. But, this move only had a partial impact on the improvement of employment opportunities.

As far as Vellore district was concerned, only 405 candidates, who had registered with the District Employment Office, were recommended for postings, as against 2.06 lakh candidates on the live registers of the office. The sponsoring of candidates during the first five months of 2007 was negligible. Most of the recruitment was for the posts of secondary grade teachers, and drivers and conductors in the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Villupuram Division.But, the general absence of opportunities in the other departments has not had any impact on the continuing registrations. S. Ramamoorthy, District Employment Officer, Vellore, said that after the announcement of the Plus Two results, about 1,000 candidates had been registering in the Employment Office a day, on an average.

The crowd waiting in front of the office in Arcot Road here was so much that the District Employment Office had to open a temporary registration counter on the premises of the Kodayidi Kuppusamy Mudaliar Municipal Government Higher Secondary School. A nine-member team, led by a Junior Employment Officer, had been deployed for the purpose.Registration of additional qualifications in the existing employment cards and renewal of old registrations alone were done in the District Employment Office."We are going to start a centre in Vaniyambadi to register fresh candidates who had passed the Class X. The date and venue would be announced soon", Mr. Ramamoorthy said. The District Employment Office was planning to set up a placement cell at the Collectorate to recommend candidates for jobs in the private sector.

Police Constables recruitment @ Tiruchi

Tiruchi: Recruitment of Grade II Police Constables (men and women) in respect of candidates belonging to Tiruchi Range comprising Tiruchi, Karur, Perambalur, Pudukottai districts and Tiruchi for the year 2006 will be conducted at Armed Reserve Ground, Subramaniapuram, from May 28. Call letters have been despatched to the candidates on May 12. Those who do not come for the test with the letters will not be allowed to attend the same, a press release here said.

Candidates who had not received their call letters should appear before the Personal Assistant to the Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Tiruchi, on or before May 26 at 11 a.m. They should also bring along with them proof of applications/copy of the demand draft sent to Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board, Chennai.

Army recruitment rally at Dindigul

The Indian Army Branch Recruiting Office, Coimbatore, will conduct an open recruitment rally for male candidates at Government stadium, Dindigul from May 29 to June 3.According to a Collectorate release, recruitment will be held for Soldier General Duty, Soldier Tradesmen, Soldier Clerk, Soldier Technical and Soldier Nursing Assistant. Recruitment is open for candidates born on or after June 5, 1984 and before November 28, 1989.

The educational qualification would be under Matric for Soldier Tradesmen and pass in SSLC for Soldier General Duty. The qualification for Soldier Clerk, Soldier Technical and Soldier Nursing Assistant would be a pass in Plus Two with 50 per cent aggregate marks in each subject. RRB examinations to be held on June 3

The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) will hold examinations on June 3 for candidates aspiring to serve the Southern Railway as section engineer, paramedical staff and extension educator.The examinations will be conducted online at three centres in the city, Board Chairman Pankaj Kumar told presspersons here on Wednesday.Selected candidates would fill vacancies in Chennai, Madurai, Tiruchi and the Southern Railway headquarters and the Integral Coach Factory.

The RRB recently conducted online examinations for 3,500 candidates, who had passed their matriculation/SSLC examinations and received training at an Industrial Training Institute.Officials said this was the largest online examination conducted by any RRB.Mr.Kumar said the online format, besides saving time, facilitated more transparency in conduct of the examinations. The software was loaded onto the servers at examination centres to make the test available on the network of computers there."We use biometric finger printing to make sure there are no impersonators. The fingerprints of candidates are compared at different stages. In case of any discrepancy, we will take action immediately," he said.The RRB proposed to conduct online examinations for about 10,000 candidates next year.The Board was also considering making the examination internet-based, he added.
