Showcasing technology in Film making

Chennai: The state of technology that drives films today was encapsulated under one roof at the Chennai Trade Centre where a three-day exhibition for the cinema and television industry, `Cinema Today', ended on Sunday.

G. Ravi, director, Buysell Interactions, the event management company of `Cinema Today', said the exhibition was organised to bringing about co-ordination between film techniques and the television industry.

Every year, India produced an average of 800 films, of which only 15-20 percent were successful. Whereas in Hollywood, about 400 films were produced with a success rate of 80-90 percent, he said. He attributed this to the Indian film industry's lack of planning. "People think if they have money, they can make a movie. The first step towards organisation is to understand the technology available in the market," said Mr. Ravi, because after all, "a light boy today can become a director tomorrow."

`Cinema Today' plans to host an annual exhibition at different venues across India.
The highlight of the exhibition was the demonstration of a remote controlled helicopter with a camera mounted on it called a helicam. There were stalls to promote avant-garde ideas for film promotions, workshops on high definition cameras, digital theatre technology and interactive forums.
