
The Centre had allocated Rs 911 crore for the Technology Upgradation Fund (TUF) for 2007-08, Union Minister of State for Textiles E V K S Elangovan said.
Speaking to mediapersons after inaugurating a modern silk testing centre Kancheepuram, Elangovan said this represented a substantial increase over last year’s allocation of Rs 541 crore.
The government also planned to set up textile parks at Palladam near Coimbatore, Kumarapalayam near Erode, Madurai and Erode for which a sum of Rs 20 crore had been allocated for preliminary work.
