11 fishermen back to Chennai after 2 months

Chennai: Eleven fishermen abducted by Sri Lanka's Tamil Tiger rebels two months ago, have returned home safely, officials said.The fishermen were abducted by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in March this year when they out in sea for fishing, and had been in their captivity since.Tamil Nadu Director General of Police, D. Mukherjee, said interrogation of the released fishermen confirmed that they were kidnapped by the Tamil tigers."All the eleven fishermen who were abducted have now reached Chennai, and on interrogation, it has been ascertained that all of them were in the custody of LTTE," he said.

The fishermen told officials that they were kept in captivity on an island near Mannar in Sri Lanka.However, one more fisherman was yet to be released.On their return, the fishermen met Chief Minister Muthuvel Karunanidhi in Chennai.The State Government has announced a compensation of rupees 10,000 to them.
