A team from Germany visited recently Helen Nagar near Colachel, Muttom and Kadiyapattinam where St. Joseph's Development Trust, a non-governmental organisation, was involved in rehabilitation of tsunami victims. A women's conference was also organised on the prmises of a school in Colachel. The visitors, Nicole Ickenroth, Guido, Sathish Samuel and John Ebenezer, interacted with balwadi children, complementary school children, members of self-help groups and the physically handicapped.
St. Joseph's trust works in 15 villages; runs 13 day care centres with the enrolment of 370 children and 10 complementary schools with 716 children.It has formed 163 woman self-help groups with 2,930 members. They were given Rs.2.37 lakh as institutional loans without interest.
