Tuticorin:Employees staging a protest in Tuticorin on Tuesday. The staff affiliated to BSNL Employees' Union started a week-long `relay dharna' here on Tuesday.The employees wanted their wages to be revised compulsorily once in every five years. They urged the authorities concerned to improve the relativity between pay and benefits of the workers and the executives during the next round of wage negotiations.
Annual increment system as percentage of basic pay should be calculated cumulatively every year. The agitators demanded merger of 50 per cent dearness allowance with the basic pay with effect from April 1, 2004.Wages of contract workers should be increased and vacancies in public sector undertakings should be filled immediately.About 50 persons took part in the agitation.
