Frequent power cut annoyed the residents
Vellore: The frequent and daily disruptions in power supply in different parts of the district for since last month have annoyed the residents reeling under sweltering heat, and caused hardships to farmers and traders. For the past one month, not a day passed without disruption in power supply at least once a day. The disconnection would last for 10 to 30 minutes. When asked about the reasons for the frequent disruptions, K. Selvaraju, Chief Engineer, Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, Vellore Region, said that the TNEB had to resort to load shedding in different areas by rotation on instructions from the load despatch centre in Chennai. This was owing to the shortfall in power generation and defects in equipments in the thermal stations in Tuticorin, Mettur, North Chennai and Neyveli, which form part of the Tamil Nadu power grid, as well as in Ramagundam which was in the national power grid.
This problem had now eased to some extent. Besides, power supply had to be suspended in many places owing to maintenance reasons, he added."Proposals have been sent for one new 10 MVA transformer each to Katpadi and Sathumadurai. Once they are commissioned, the overall power supply in and around Vellore town will improve."
