More 1 way traffic @ Chennai
Chennai:The city will soon have a few more one-way traffic arrangements, which are expected to help ease vehicular movement, Commissioner of Police Letika Saran said here on Wednesday. She, however, did not specify the roads where the arrangements were likely to be introduced. “We are examining some stretches in the city which could be made one-way”, she said. Such arrangements were necessitated in view of the vehicle population crossing the 25-lakh mark and the city roads witnessing frequent traffic blocks and congestions at many intersections both during peak and non-peak hours.According to sources in traffic police, the The police introduced a one-way system on the Sardar Patel Road-Velachery-Taluk Office Road on April 15 after such a study. Following objections from the local residents, the police assured that permanent arrangements to facilitate safe and easy pedestrian movement would be in place soon. Many motorists had welcomed the one-way system as it dispensed with a few traffic signals on the stretches and ensured a smooth flow of traffic. On helmets for two-wheeler riders, Ms Saran said: “We have been advising all riders to wear helmet as it protected them from any fatal mishap.”
