TWAD will supply drinking water to Govt.schools
Namakal:The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board, Rural Water Supply division, will create facilities to ensure adequate supply of drinking water to students of 27 government high schools and seven higher secondary schools this year.According to a press release, the Government has sanctioned Rs. 37.50 lakh for this purpose.A tank with a capacity of 5,000 litres would be constructed in each school.Besides, a sum of Rs. 3 lakh was sanctioned to provide water supply to two backward class students' hostels and three most backward class students' hostels in the district.These works would be completed within December this year.The board would also undertake works to provide water supply to five cattle markets in the district this year, the release said.A sum of Rs. 8.99 crore was allotted under the Individual Power Pump schemes to provide water supply to 245 rural habitations in 15 panchayat unions in the district in the current financial year.
The construction of water re-charging structures under the Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme were being carried out in 24 places in the district at an estimated cost of Rs. 75.59 lakh, the release said.A sum of Rs. 30 lakh was allotted to create drinking water supply provisions in habitations, where people belonging to scheduled caste and schedule tribe live in the district this year, the release added.
