Chennai:The hospital attached to Sri Ramachandra University in Porur will now perform free facial bone deformities (orthognathic) surgery for cleft lip palate.The surgery, costing around Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 80,000, will be done at the Plastic Surgery Department. The patient will be admitted to the general ward only.The project will be supported by Smile Train, a U.S.-based charity organisation. It is already supporting the hospital’s free cleft lip and palate surgeries, V. R. Venkataachalam, Chancellor said on Tuesday.The hospital has tied up with Smile Train to provide Rs. 1,000 to 2,000 each to the families of patients unable to bear the costs of travel and stay.
