Swimming pool inaugurated

Madurai :Parents looking for ways to drag their wards away from the `idiot box' and replace the laziness during summer vacation with some useful physical activity have been provided with an excellent alibi now.The doors of Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu's swimming pool at M.G.R. Stadium here were thrown open to everyone on Monday as the Collector, S.S. Jawahar, sold the first ticket.

Funds from the State and Central Governments, apart from donations from the public, were pooled for this Rs.51-lakh venture. In addition, a protection wall around the pool was erected at a cost of Rs. 4.5 lakh, sanctioned from the District Collector's small savings funds. The pool is open for those above five years with separate time allotted for girls. Sans Monday, when the pool would be closed for maintenance work, it would be open on all days.
