2 day training programme

V.K.Venkataramani, Dean, Fisheries College and Research Institute, Tuticorin, at a training programme on Friday. A two-day training programme on `Economic management issues in coastal resource conservation' for 20 professionals of DHAN Foundation, Madurai, concluded at Fisheries College and Research Institute here on Friday.

Issues relating to conservation of biodiversity of marine fauna, socio-economic issues involved in coastal conservation, management strategies to be followed for judicious use of highly used stock, basic economic model to be followed, community participation in fisheries management, etc., were discussed.


The Dean, Fisheries College and Research Institute, Tuticorin, V.K. Venkataramani, said that the programme identified issues relating to endangered species, involving stakeholders in improving the fishing system.It helped in assessing the damage caused to aquatic species biodiversity through illegal exploitation, in identifying places of excessive fishing and in formulating appropriate measures to curb over-fishing.
