Govt employees should explain welfare schemes to the people

Erode:The elected representatives and Government employees should explain welfare schemes to the people, especially the poor, for successful implementation of the programmes, said the District Collector, T. Udhaychandran, at Singampettai village in Bhavani taluk on Wednesday during a mass contact meeting.The Collector said that the main aim behind organising mass contact days was to help the poor in remote areas. He said it was quite impossible for many people to meet the Collector and submit petitions.

Moreover, it was expensive for the poor as they had to visit the district headquarters. So, he said, “the Government was going to the doorsteps of the poor and the needy.”Prior to the mass contact programme, a mini expo was held in the village in which details about all the schemes and welfare measures were on display.The Collector said studies had revealed that people living in southern parts of Tamil Nadu had blood pressure, diabetic and other diseases. So, in every mass contact meeting, medical camp was being conducted and in rural areas, Varumun Kappom camps were held.


The Collector appealed to the farmers to implement drip irrigation system. With limited water, more areas can be irrigated. And, they may conserve water.He said for implementing drip irrigation system, subsidy was being provided to the farmers and they may approach the Agriculture Department for details. The district administration was planning to display the prices of agricultural produce in various places for the benefit of farmers.The Collector distributed assistance totalling Rs. 14.38 lakh to 173 persons.The Sub-Collector, Gobichettipalayam, Anshul Misra, the Chairman, Erode District Panchayat Council, S.V. Saravanan, and others spoke.Agriculture, Sericulture, Agricultural Engineering and Information and Public Relations Departments took part in the mini exhibition organised as part of the meeting.
