Rain at TN States

Five fishermen from Kadiyapattinam ventured into the sea in a mechanised boat. They were waiting for the catch after casting the net. A giant wave hit their boat killing Sylvester (42). The boat capsized and their colleagues rescued the remaining fishermen.The rainfall recorded (in millimetres) at various parts were 21.4 in Chittar I, 20.6 in Chittar II, 18.4 in Surulode, 20 in Boothapandi, 7.6 in Kannimar, 15.2 in Nagercoil, 19.6 in Kottaram, 21.2 in Puthen dam, 14.4 in Aralvoimozhi and 9 in Myladi.The water level in Pechipparai dam stood at 26.60 feet against the total capacity of 48 feet, 35.90 feet in Perunchani (77 feet), 3.44 feet in Chittar I and 4.10 feet in Chittar II (18 feet).Rain hit many parts of the district on Friday. The town received only mild rain.
According to Disaster Management and Mitigation Department sources, 19 rain gauge stations in the district recorded a total of 44.5 mm of rain during the last 24 hours ending at 8 a.m. on Friday. Following is the rainfall registered (in mm) at different places during the period:Kovilpatti 3, Tiruchendur 1, Kadambur 9, Ottapidaram 1, Sattankulam 12, Srivaikundam 10 and Tuticorin 3.5.Tirunelveli:Thanks to the intermittent drizzle, for the first time during this season, all waterfalls at Courtallam experienced floods due to rains in the Western Ghats.As flow of water in Main Falls crossed the protective concrete arch tourists were prevented from taking bath.
The showers also increased the inflow into Papanasam and Servalar dams, which received a rainfall of 61 mm. Water level at Papanasam dam rose from 43.60 feet to 53.20 feet, while Servalar dam had a storage level of 85.76 feet. Water level in these major reservoirs is expected to go up further since the inflow stood at 5,894 cusecs.
