Thanjavur: People, if found eligible, could get ration cards within one month from the date of application, said N. Muthukaruppan, District Collector (in-charge), at Kaduveli village in Thiruvaiyaru taluk on Wednesday.Speaking at a mass contact programme, he said that the Government has ordered that the cards could be printed by the district collectorate itself. Previously, cards were printed in Chennai and brought to districts. Hence there may not be delay in getting ration cards. Eligible persons who apply to get the cards will be provided with a card in one month.
Mr. Muthukaruppan received 22 petitions at the camp and referred them to various departments for consideration. He disbursed Rs. 400 each as financial assistance to four old persons. Under welfare scheme for weaker sections, he disbursed Rs. 10,000 each to five persons and maternity benefits to 10 women.
