Water from Koyambedu treatment plant to industrial units of SIPCOT

Chennai: Metrowater proposes to supply about four crore litres of secondary treated sewage water daily from the Koyambedu treatment plant to industrial units of SIPCOT planned at Irunkattukottai and Oragadam.The water agency is already providing 25 million litres of treated sewage water to industrial units including Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited and Madras Fertilisers Limited in the Manali industrial belt.

This month will see the completion of several infrastructure development projects taken up by Metrowater. Pipeline work for drinking water supply in West Velachery is nearing completion.Of the 219 streets to be covered, work is on at the TNHB Colony to lay pipelines along nine streets to a length of 1.4 km.The project aims to benefit about 50,000 residents. It will be completed by June 10, a Metrowater official told a team of journalists during a tour of work sites on Saturday.
The work to provide sewerage connectivity to 610 industrial units at the Guindy Industrial Estate and 390 houses in adjacent residential pockets such as Nagi Reddy Thottam and Reddy Streets is also under way.The project worth Rs.7.35 crore is scheduled to be completed in August.

Metrowater plans to launch an online complaints monitoring system in all its area and depot offices, to enable consumers to register their complaints online and receive feedback.The system, to be launched in June, will facilitate monitoring measures taken to rectify problems and provide feedback to consumers, said an official.The online connectivity of all area offices and 60 depot offices for billing and collection of water, sewerage tax and charges has been on since March.The tour covered various Metrowater initiatives such as the water distribution network at the Mylapore-Nandanam water distribution station, mobile water laboratory and employees' welfare activities, including a health camp at the Chetpet area office.
