50 houses submerged in flood

Erode:People vacating their houses following flood in the River Cauvery.Fifty houses in Krishnampalayam and Vairapalayam areas on the Erode Cauvery River banks were submerged in flood on Saturday morning. However, there was no report on loss of properties.The flood was caused because of discharge of over 30,000 cusecs of water from Stanley Reservoir, Mettur, and 7,000 cusecs of water from Lower Bhavani Project. The revenue department has deputed a village administrative officer to monitor the situation. Residents in the areas have been evacuated to safer places.

Owing to the heavy flow in the Cauvery River, people have been asked to not to enter the river.A disaster management control room has been set up in the Collectorate which is functioning round-the-clock. There has been a slight reduction in the flow in the Cauvery River in the afternoon.Heavy rain in Kunnathur, Kurumandur and Nambiyur areas on Thursday filled over 10 check dams and water level has increased in a number of ponds.
