Evening showers cool Chennai

Thanks to the light showers late Thursday, city residents breathed a sigh of relief on the hottest day in the last couple of weeks. On Thursday, a maximum temperature of 38.1 degrees Celsius was recorded in Nungambakkam, while 37.9 degrees Celsius-maximum was recorded in Meenambakkam.For the 12 hours ending 8.30 p.m., 1.3 mm of rainfall was recorded at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam received 0.2 mm rain.

Thanks to the showers last week, the maximum temperature recorded in the city during the last fortnight was around 35 degrees Celsius, and the weather, moderately pleasant. The maximum temperature in Nungambakkam touched the 38-mark on Thursday, after over 20 days. It was 38.8 degree Celsius (in Nungambakkam) on June 12 last.The Regional Meteorological Centre said Friday would be a partly cloudy day. It said showers or thunder showers are possible in some areas.
