New pro-chancellors for VIT Univ

Vellore:Sekar Viswanathan and G.V. Selvam took over as the new Pro-Chancellors of the VIT University, in the presence of the Chancellor G. Viswanathan and Vice-Chancellor P. Radhakrishnan, on the University campus here on Saturday.They succeed Sankar Viswanathan and G.V. Sampath, who relinquished office as Pro-Chancellor (Academic) and Pro-Chancellor (Administration) respectively. Mr. Sankar Viswanathan and Mr. Sampath would continue to be members of the Board of Management of the University, according to Mr. Viswanathan

Talking to newspersons later, the Chancellor said he wanted the VITU to be a model for other private educational institutions.“We want healthy competition in the field of education. Employment opportunities are increasing all over the world and we should prepare the students for it,” he said.Mr. Sekar Viswanathan said the new team would work towards making VIT University the best educational institution in the world, as envisaged by the Chancellor.Mr. Selvam said the VITU had already received accreditation from the British Government for its courses. It would obtain U.S. accreditationbefore the silver jubilee celebrations of the VIT University in 2009, he added.
