Tuticorin: The Minister for Animal Husbandry, P. Geetha Jeevan, flagged off the operations of a ‘mechanical earthmover/excavator’ and a ‘dump truck’ purchased newly by the Tuticorin municipality, at a function held here on Saturday. R. Lakshmi, Municipal Commissioner, said that the automobiles were purchased at a cost of Rs.28 lakh using the 12th Finance Commission grants to strengthen the ongoing solid waste management project.
The dump truck would be used for carrying the solid waste coming out of houses and commercial establishments to the compost yard operated by the municipal administration at Tharuvaikulam near here.The Municipal Chairperson, R. Kasturi Thangam, and the Municipal Engineer, S.A. Rajagopal, were present.
