Nagercoil: The Government has decided to implement the ‘Ulakkai Aruvi’ scheme at a cost of Rs. 40 crore to provide potable water to the residents of Nagercoil municipal limits.The Tourism Minister, N. Suresh Rajan, said that the long pending demand of the residents to get adequate drinking water had been fulfilled with the allotment of Rs. 25 lakh to prepare a detailed estimate for the project.
The Central and State Governments and the Nagercoil Municipality would allot funds.Tenders would be notified within two months.Moreover, the Government had allotted Rs. 45.4 crore for the implementation of various drinking water projects in different parts of the district. Works were going on in full swing and would be completed soon.Steps had been taken to renovate the Vadaserry market at a cost of Rs. 3.5 crore, Mr. Rajan said.Four new buses would be operated from Kanyakumari to Palani.The first one would start from Kanyakumari at 6.25 a.m., the second at 10.15 a.m. and the third, 4.45 p.m. . A ticket would cost Rs. 125.An outpost had been opened at the newly-inaugurated bus stand at Vadaserry. Close circuit cameras had been installed to prevent crimes, he added.
